9 SEPTEMBER 2022, RISHIKESH, INDIA: Today’s beautiful Himalaya Diwas celebrations at Parmarth Niketan were a beautiful reminder of the importance of the revered mountain chain to both Indians and the world, as Ministers, Experts and Stakeholders from across the state and the country joined together for a special celebrations inaugurated by Hon’ble Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Pushkar Singh Dhamiji, President of Parmarth Niketan, Param Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, Founder of HESCO (Himalayan Environmental Studies and Conservation Organization), Padamshri Dr Anil P Joshiji, Param Pujya Swami Govind Dev Giri Ji, Hon’ble Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Former Governor of Uttarakhand Smt Baby Rani Mauryaji, Hon’ble Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Subodh Uniyalji, Speaker of Uttarakhand Assembly, Smt Ritu Khanduriji, MLA Smt Renu Bishtji and others.

They gathered together on the holy banks of Maa Ganga, in the lap of the Himalayas, to discuss ways to ensure that the Himalayas remain a clean and pristine source of health, wellness and inspiration well into the future – especially as climate insecurity increases across the globe. They urged that the Himalayas act as a climate protector – a climate governor – for not only 18 countries in Asia but for the world. Thanks to their unfailing efforts, these mountains have protected this region from the worst effects of climate change but, even so, Himalayan glaciers have lost 18 percent of their mass since 1975 – and the melting rate of these water “banks” has recently increased unexpectedly.  It is becoming increasingly apparent that we need to do more than just think and talk about ways that we can improve and strengthen the Himalayas governorship of the region’s climate – we must act! This is why this event was organised to inspire just that – action. To act to preserve and protect, improve and strengthen the increasingly fragile Himalayas, which serves as the world’s water tower and carbon sink!

Param Pujya Swamiji & Padamshri Dr Anil Joshiji planned to this year’s Himalaya Diwas celebrations at Parmarth Niketan, inviting scientists and concerned government ministers and stakeholders.

After a beautiful inaugural session in the ongoing Ekal Shri Ram Katha by Famous Shri Ram Kathakar, Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teertha Kshetra Trust Treasurer Pujya Swami Govind Dev Giri Ji; that featured special address by Dr. Joshiji explaining the need for Himalaya Diwas, Pujya Swamji’s blessings and inspiring message to serve the Himalayas, as well as special addresses by Hon’ble Smt Baby Rani Mauryaji and Hon’ble Shri Subodh Uniyalji and the keynote address of Hon’ble Chief Minister Shri Dhamiji.

In his address, Hon’ble CM Shri Pushkar Singh Dhamiji stated: “We all must work together for the conservation and protection of the Himalayas, as well as for sustainable development. We must unite for development and the economy, and for the environment and ecology. To keep the air, water, soil and forests of our country pollution free, the Himalayas must be made clean and pollution free. As the Hon’ble Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modiji says, ‘ Jai Jawan-Jai Kisan, Jai Vigyan-Jai Anusandhan.’

“During the Harela festival in Uttarakhand, we share a message of nature and environmental protection by planting saplings for a month. The oxygen we are breathing today is the result of the plants planted by our ancestors, so we must continue to plant saplings for our future generations.” The Hon’ble Chief Minister then administered an oath to all the distinguished guests and visitors for the promotion of Green Himalayas, and shared information about all of the events and seminars occurring in the Himalayan states over the coming days as well as plans for a larger Himalaya Diwas celebration next year inviting Chief Ministers and Policy Makers of all Himalayan States.

Pujya Swamiji, in His message, expressed concern over the melting glaciers of Iceland, Greenland and the Himalayas and said that “every person has to become a guardian of the Himalayas because if the Himalayas thrive, we thrive and, if there are the Himalayas, then there is Ganga. No mountain range in the world has the power to provide life, courage and prosperity to society as the Himalayas do. The Himalayas have positively influenced the lives of the masses. The Himalayas have made an important contribution in shaping India. The Himalayas are a sacred heritage of India’s material richness, divinity, natural splendor, cultural beauty and spirituality that has preserved Indian values.

“Most of the rivers of North India originate from the Himalayas. The soul of India resides in the lap of the Himalayas, covered with white sheets of snow. The Himalayas are not only the source of our life, but also quench the thirst of a large population of India. This is why it is called the ‘water tower of the earth’. Together, we must promote peace tourism, oxygen tourism, yoga and meditation tourism. We must preserve the natural beauty and cultural heritage of the Himalayas.”

During the inaugural ceremony, a powerful new video – filmed during Param Pujya Swamiji’s recent yatra to Iceland and Greenland and depicting the devastating effects of climate change in those Arctic nations – was premiered. “Protecting Our Glaciers: A Himalaya Diwas Sankalp” illustrates the worldwide implications of global warming, and issues a clarion call to action for all of the planet’s citizens. In his opening remarks, HESCO Founder Dr. Anil Prakash Joshiji suggested that “for the conservation of the Himalayas, the participation of the people and the government is very important. We have to create an ideal model of development. Both society and the government will have to think so that development and ecological development can go hand in hand. For the promotion of the Himalayas, all systems have to be brought on a single platform.  The work that Pujya Swamiji is doing is amazing! He has a personality like the Himalayas and is guiding us all with Himalaya-like thoughts.”

Adding that, ““The political capital of India is Delhi, the economic capital is Mumbai but the ecological capital is Uttarakhand. Politics, economics and life for that matter cannot survive without our ecology and environment. Hence, Uttarakhand must lead the way in Himalayan protection and preservation”

Smt Baby Rani Maurya, the Hon’ble Cabinet Minister of Uttar Pradesh, Former Governor of Uttarakhand who had previously celebrated Himalaya Diwas at Parmarth in 2018 in her tenure as the Hon’ble Governor, stated that “Parmarth Niketan and Uttarakhand are sources of wonderful spiritual energy. I do not feel like leaving this holy and peaceful place and going anywhere else. Coming to Parmarth Niketan, I feel as if Mother Ganga is absorbing me in herself. I have no words to express my joy and happiness.”

And, Hon’ble Forest and Technology Minister, Uttarakhand Shri Subodh Uniyal ji, encouraged everyone to plant saplings and said “One tree is equal to one hundred sons,” then shared information about Parmarth reservoirs and the Rudraksha forest and Vatika in which mass plantation is underway in collaboration between the Government of Uttarakhand and Parmarth Niketan.

After the inaugural session, the invited experts and stakeholders got to work, focusing their experience and attention on the vital topics of Himalayan Environment & Culture; Livelihoods and Tourism in the Himalayas; Education & Healthcare in the Himalayan States; and Himalayan Women & Youth Empowerment to produce a strategy and series of initiatives to combat the effects of climate change in the Himalayas and to address the current and pressing needs and issues of the region.

Also joining the celebrations and the planning sessions were numerous government and civic officials – each committed to the protection and preservation of the Himalayas – including the Hon’ble Former Minister and Chief Minister of Uttarakhand Shri Ramesh Nishank Pokriyalji; Scientist and Former Head of the Botany Division at the Forest Research Institute, Dr. Subhash Nautiyalji; the Director-General of UCOST (Uttarakhand Council of Science and Technology), Prof. Dr. Durgesh Pant ji; President of Vivekananda Youth Connect Foundation, Shri Dr. Rajesh Sarwadnyaji; the Hon’ble President of Badri Kedar Samiti, Mr Ajendra Ajayji; the Hon’ble Director of Rajaji National Park, Mr Saket Badolaji; the Hon’ble Director of UCOST, Dr. Reema Pantji; HESCO Principal Scientist, Dr Kiran Negiji; Dean of Seema Dental College, Dr. Himanshu Aeranji; Dr. Yogeshwari; Dr. DP Uniyal; and, other invited guests and dignitaries. It was a great honour having the expert input of all of these distinguished guests.

Today’s inspiring and motivating event offered a powerful and necessary reminder that the Himalayas are the saviour of Indian culture, our spiritual and cultural heritage – and a great storehouse of biodiversity. They are vital guardians of ecological balance, not just for India but for the planet. Without the Himalayas, there is no Ganga, and only when Himalaya is Swasth can India be Mast!

ऋषिकेश, 9 सितम्बर। हिमालय दिवस के अवसर पर परमार्थ निकेतन में हिमालय शिखर सम्मेलन का उद्घाटन माननीय मुख्यमंत्री, उत्तराखंड श्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी जी, परमार्थ निकेतन के अध्यक्ष स्वामी चिदानन्द सरस्वती जी, बाल विकास और पोषण मंत्री उत्तरप्रदेश सरकार, वन और तकनीकी मंत्री श्री सुबोध उनियाल जी, श्रीमती बेबी रानी मौर्य जी, हेस्को के संस्थापक डॉ. अनिल प्रकाश जोशी जी, विधायक यमकेश्वर श्रीमती रेणू बिष्ट जी, विधायक थराली श्री भूपाल राम टम्टा जी, यूकोस्ट के महानिदेशक (उत्तराखंड विज्ञान और प्रौद्योगिकी परिषद), प्रो डॉ. दुर्गेश पंत जी और विभिन्न विभूतियों ने सहभाग किया।

यह कार्यक्रम उत्तराखंड सरकार, परमार्थ निकेतन, गंगा एक्शन परिवार, हैस्को, यूकास्ट के संयुक्त तत्वाधान में आयोजित किया गयज्ञं आज का कार्यक्रम दो सत्रों में विभाजित किया गया है प्रथम सत्र में विशिष्ट विभूतियों ने उद्घाटन कर उद्बोधन दिया और दूसरे सत्र में देशभर से आये पर्यावरणविद, मंत्रियों, विशेषज्ञों, हितधारकों और वैज्ञानिक ने सहभाग कर हिमालय के संरक्षण हेतु विशेष विचार विमर्श किया तथा भावी योजनायें बनायी।

हिमालय एशिया के 18 देशों के लिए एक जलवायु रक्षक – एक जलवायु गवर्नर- के रूप में कार्य करता है। उनके अथक प्रयासों की बदौलत, इन पहाड़ों ने इस क्षेत्र को जलवायु परिवर्तन के सबसे दुष्वार समय में बचाया है, लेकिन फिर भी, हिमालय के ग्लेशियरों ने 1975 के बाद से अपने द्रव्यमान का 18 प्रतिशत खो दिया है – और इन जल बैंकों के पिघलने की दर में हाल ही में अप्रत्याशित रूप से वृद्धि हुई है।  

माननीय मुख्यमंत्री श्री पुष्कर सिंह धामी जी ने कहा कि हम सभी को मिलकर हिमालय के संवर्द्धन और संरक्षण के साथ ही अनवरत विकास के लिये कार्य करना होगा। विकास और आर्थिकी, पर्यावरण और पारिस्थितिकी, ईकोनामी और ईकोलाजी के लिये एकजुट होना होगा। हमारे देश की वायु, जल, मिट्टी और जंगलों को प्रदूषण मुक्त रखने के लिये हिमालय को स्वच्छ और प्रदूषण मुक्त करना होगा। इस अवसर पर उन्होंने मोदी जी द्वारा दिये मंत्र जय जवान-जय किसान, जय विज्ञान-जय अनुसंधान को दोहराया।

माननीय मुख्यमंत्री जी ने बताया कि उत्तराखंड में हरेला पर्व के अवसर पर एक माह तक पौधारोपण कर प्रकृति और पर्यावरण संरक्षण का संदेश दिया जाता है। उन्होंने कहा कि हम आज जीवित रहने के लिये जो आॅक्सीजन ले रहे हैं वह हमारे पूर्वजों द्वारा रोपित पौधों का ही परिणाम है इसलिये हमें भी अपनी भावी पीढ़ियों के लिये पौधारोपण करना होगा।

माननीय मुख्यमंत्री जी ने सभी प्रतिभागियों को हिमालय के हरित संवर्द्धन हेतु शपथ दिलवायी तथा आगामी दिनों में सभी हिमालय राज्यों की गोष्ठी के विषय में भी जानकारी प्रदान की।

स्वामी चिदानन्द सरस्वती जी ने अलास्का, आइसलैंड और हिमालय के पिघलते ग्लेशियरों पर चिंता व्यक्त करते हुये कहा कि प्रत्येक व्यक्ति को हिमालय का प्रहरी और पहरेदार बनना होगा क्योंकि हिमालय है तो हम है और हिमालय है तो गंगा है। दुनिया की किसी भी पर्वत श्रृंखला में समाज को जीवन, साहस और समृद्धि प्रदान करने की शक्ति नहीं है, जितनी हिमालय के पास है। हिमालय ने जनसमुदाय के जीवन को सकारात्मक रूप से प्रभावित किया है। भारत को आकार देने में हिमालय का महत्वपूर्ण योगदान है। हिमालय भारत की भौतिक समृद्धि, दिव्यता, प्राकृतिक भव्यता, सांस्कृतिक सौंदर्य और आध्यात्मिकता की एक पवित्र विरासत है जिसने भारतीय मूल्यों को अपने में सहेज कर रखा है।

स्वामी जी ने कहा कि उत्तर भारत की अधिकांश नदियां हिमालय से ही निकलती है। बर्फ की सफेद चादरों से ढ़के हिमालय की गोद में भारत की आत्मा बसती है। हिमालय हमारी प्राणवायु का स्रोत ही नहीं बल्कि भारत की बड़ी आबादी की प्यास भी बुझाता है इसलिए तो उसे ’पृथ्वी का जल मीनार’ भी कहा जाता है। हम सभी को मिलकर पीस टूरिज्म, आॅक्सीजन टूरिज्म, योग और ध्यान टूरिज्म को बढ़ावा देना होगा। हमें हिमालय के प्राकृतिक सौन्दर्य एवं सांस्कृतिक विरासत को संजो कर रखना होगा।

वन और तकनीकी मंत्री श्री सुबोध उनियाल जी ने आज हिमालय दिवस के अवसर पर सभी को पौधारोपण के लिये प्रोत्साहित करते हुये कहा कि एक वृक्ष सौ पुत्रों के समान है। इस अवसर पर उन्होंने परमार्थ जलाशयों और परमार्थ द्वारा रोपित रूद्राक्ष वन और वाटिका के विषय में जानकारी प्रदान की।

बाल विकास और पोषण मंत्री उत्तरप्रदेश सरकार श्रीमती बेबी रानी मौर्य जी ने कहा कि परमार्थ निकेतन और उत्तराखंड अद्भुत आध्यात्मिक ऊर्जा के स्रोत हंै। मेरा मन नहीं होता कि इस पवित्र और शान्तप्रिय स्थान को छोड़कर कहीं और जायें। परमार्थ निकेतन आकर मुझे ऐसे लगता है जैसे माँ गंगा मुझे अपने आप में समाहित कर रही है।

हेस्को के संस्थापक डॉ. अनिल प्रकाश जोशी जी ने कहा कि हिमालय के संरक्षण के लिये जन आन्दोलन तथा सरकार की भागीदारी अत्यंत आवश्यक है। हमें विकास के आदर्श माॅडल को तैयार करना होगा। देश में विकास  और परिस्थितिकी विकास साथ-साथ हो इस हेतु समाज और सरकार दोनों को चितंन करना होगा। हिमालय के संवर्द्धन के लिये सभी तंत्रों को एक मंच पर लाना होगा जो कार्य परमार्थ निकेतन के अध्यक्ष स्वामी जी कर रहे हैं, वे हिमालय जैसा व्यक्तित्व लिये और हिमालय जैसे विचारों के साथ हम सभी का मार्गदर्शन कर रहे हैं।

जैव विविधता का एक बड़ा भंडार है। वे न केवल भारत के लिए बल्कि ग्रह के लिए पारिस्थितिक संतुलन के महत्वपूर्ण संरक्षक हैं। हिमालय के बिना गंगा नहीं है, और जब हिमालय स्वस्थ है तभी भारत मस्त हो सकता है!
