Maha Shivratri Celebrations at Parmarth

Maha Shivratri – the Great Night of Shiva – is one of the most auspicious and sacred festivals of the Hindu calendar. A night devoted to overcoming darkness and ignorance through introspective focus, fasting and meditation on Shiva, it embodies all of the tenets of the Hindu tradition, including honesty, non-injury to others, charity and forgiveness.

At Parmarth Niketan, celebration of this divine festival last night included a beautiful Shivratri Special Ganga Aarti, complete with messages and blessings from HH Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji – Muniji and Pujya Sadhvi Bhagawati Saraswatiji in Hindi and English on the significance of this sacred night- a night of wakefulness- a night to journey within.

This was immediately followed by a wonderful Shivratri Satsang with Pujya Sadhviji in which she spoke about essence of Lord Shiva as the divine energy of dissolution in order to make space for the new, freedom, spiritual awakening and breaking free from ignorance, illusion and attachment.

The evening concluded with a Special Rudra Abhishek, Puja and Shankar Bhagawan Aarti on the holy banks of Maa Ganga, in the lap of the Himalayas, in the divine presence of Pujya Swamiji and Pujya Sadhviji.
