December 21:
-- Rishikesh

The International Conference on Ayurveda in the 21st Century was organized and hosted by Parmarth Niketan Ashram, under the auspices of All India Ayurvedic Congress.

Today, as our world progresses into the Third Millennium, we have conquered the secrets of outer space, we have conquered the secrets of the ocean depths, we have conquered the secrets of the Earths history. Yet, the secrets to health in our own bodies continue to elude us.

As we create more and more perfect machinery, more and more immaculate systems and technology, we find that our bodies are failing us each day.  Thus, in this age of progress and advancement, the enigma of our own beings is the one which continues to be shrouded in darkness, misconceptions and confusion.

The ancient, yet timeless science of Ayurveda is the only healing system which addresses not only the physical plane of our bodies, but also our emotional and spiritual planes, as well as the overall balance in our beings.  Its effectiveness has been proven century after century, and today, finally, the modern, Western world is grabbing hold of this great science.  For, Ayurveda is not only effective where modern medicine is impotent, but it also has no side effects, and it is so inexpensive as to be available even to the poorest of the poor.

These reasons make Ayurveda the only possible hope for true health on Earth -- health for our physical bodies, health for our emotional and spiritual states, and health for the very depths of our beings.

Respected Bibiji, Smt. Kamaljitji, Dr. Devendra Triguna, Pujya Swamiji and Pujya Manjit Singhji light the inaugural lamp Opening day of the Conference.

However, as a science it is complex and intricate. It is not as simple as going to the store and picking up a bottle of painkillers; for Ayurveda is structured according variations in season, in location and in individual body type.

Thus, the need is great for the intricacies of this science to be taught and disseminated throughout the world in a way which will bring about the greatest healing for the greatest number.

To crystallize plans for an Ayurvedic University in Uttranchal.  As a new, Himalayan state,  Uttranchals gift to Bharat and to the world can be the preservation and advancement of the ancient science of Ayurveda.

This conference was organized and hosted by Parmarth Niketan Ashram, under the guidance and inspiration of H.H. Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji (Pujya Muniji), and it was graced by the presence of H.H. Siri Singh Sahib, Shri Yogi Bhajanji, H.H. Upcoming Events

February 25 - March 3, 2002: International Yoga Festival

Parmarth Niketan is honored to be the host of this world-renowned celebration of the ancient science of yoga.  Delegates, students, teachers, yogis and philosophers will gather together to learn, to teach, to discuss and to drink of the divine nectar of this sacred wisdom.

Yoga means "union;" it is a union of breath to the body, of the mind to the muscles, and most importantly of the self to the divine. What better place to become "united" than on the sacred banks of Mother Ganga, in a land to which rishis and sages have flocked for millennia?

While all aspects of yoga will be discussed, the focus will be on yogasanas, pranayama, and meditation. Using the body as a medium, the breath becomes still, the mind attains peace and the soul moves closer to liberation.

The program will include demonstrations by international yoga experts, classes in asanas, prayanama, and meditation, lectures by renowned yogis and masters, discussions, and much more.

However, there will be even more. The entire atmosphere will be charged with divine energy, due to so many people participating in sacred yoga.

Additionally, this year, there will be a special addition, as Gurmukh -- world renowned Kundalini Yoga Teacher -- will come and augment the Festival with a course in Kundalini Yoga.
