Swachh Kunao. Swachh Bharat.
Eid Mubarak to all. Wishing everyone a beautiful, happy and auspicious Eid. Here is an special clean-up we had that honours the spirit of our collective oneness and to inspire us to, as Pujya Swamiji’s says, make every festival, every special occasion, every day a clean and green one.
Recently villagers of Kunao came together with Global Interfaith WASH Alliance (GIWA), Divine Shakti Foundation, Ganga Action Parivar (GAP) volunteers and the Parmarth Niketan Gurukul Rishikumars to clean up their community at the site and surroundings of the local Hindu temple. The village of Kunao is predominately a forest dweller community with a majority of Muslim families situated just of the banks of Mother Ganga in the Rajaji National Park near the Chilla Barrage, Rishikesh in the District of Pauri.
Under GIWA’s 3H programme of Health, Hygiene and Harmony, inspired by HH Pujya Swami Chidanand Saraswatiji, President of Parmarth Niketan, Rishikesh, programmes on WASH education, awareness, weekly medical camps, tree plantation drives, cow shelter and care activities are being undertaken with the spirit of bringing people together across diverse backgrounds and building strong foundations for harmonious communities. Amongst GIWA and GAP’s pipeline projects in Kunao, along with community clean up and tree plantation programmes, are a computer centre, bio-toilets provision as well as establishing it as an open defecation free village are amongst the various initiatives being planned within the coming months with the involvement and engagement of the local community.
‘This project is part of a global effort to protect sacred places and promote inter-religious cooperation through the Universal Code of Conduct on Holy Sites initiative.’
